Through my eyes: Career Fair! GO!
Here at the University of Minnesota, students have the opportunity to network with companies for future jobs or internships. Career fairs are a chance to develop your introductions and interviewing skills. There are a couple things to keep in mind while attending these events.
First impressions are everything. Dress up. Be classy. Be someone worth remembering. Set yourself apart. These companies talk to many different students, what makes you different?
Be prepared. Don’t carry around loose papers. Have a binder or a portfolio.
Know who you want to impress the most. Take a couple practice runs, talking to other companies to prepare for your big impression.
Be yourself. Don’t get nervous. Don’t over think. Start off with a solid handshake. Make the first conversation happen “Hi! My name is _____” then wait for them to introduce themselves. After introductions, slide into questions about what you are both looking for.
